I felt like ya’ll deserved an update about some changes coming to this blog in the upcoming months.
If you’ve been checking out my Writing Accountability Posts you’re probably aware that I haven’t been writing much lately. I’ve started maintaining those posts because I wanted to keep myself accountable about writing more and reading more. While they have helped re: reading more, if anything my writing has suffered. In the past month I’ve written/edited maybe only 10,000 words total, which sucks by my standards.
I think my problem is that my reviews are eating too much of my time. My reviews are usually between 500 and 1000 words long, with some getting close to 2000 words. Honestly those long reviews take me hours to write. Every one of those words is one word I’m not actually putting into my writing, my books.
So I’ve decided that for a few months I’m going to half-ass my reviews. I’m going to switch up my reviews to a Pros/Cons format, and only include one or two paragraphs of solid critique to explain my opinions instead of the usual five to ten paragraphs. I’m hoping that by doing this I’ll be able to put my creative energy elsewhere.
You will not see any changes to my blogging style until late May/early June because I have around thirty reviews already written up and waiting to be published. Until then, au revoir.
