Hey guys, just FYI I’m not going to have a book review to post this week. I just got Butcher’s newest Dresden book from the library and I’m only now starting it. I intend to do a longer review/lit analysis for it, so I’m not going to rush the review just for the sake of the artificial deadline of a blogpost. Sorry!
Additionally, I think I’m going to take my reviews and blog in a new direction. I’m going to be reviewing fewer books, but making the reviews higher quality and longer. I find that my 5k-10k word long literary analyses help ME improve as a writer more than just churning out hundreds of smaller reviews. There are a ton of other places you can go for smaller reviews, but I can’t think of anywhere other blog that goes in for the in-depth discussion of a books plot/characterization/themes and such. I will still do the occasional short review if I feel like it, but they will be the exception and not the rule.
And finally, my work on my book is steadily progressing. Unfortunately I’ve discovered I need to pretty much do a total re-edit/re-structuring of the second half the book, which sucks. But it is the way it is; nothing to do but grin and bear it. It needs more time and attention on my part.
As a result of these two factors, you can expect me to produce fewer reviews. I’m going to aim for closer to 25 in-depth reviews a year as opposed to the 50-100 which I’ve been doing for the last four years.
