A Radio Host Dies After Drinking a Sponsored Beverage

Spoiler-ific review

Another Nero Wolfe mystery, originally published in 1948.

A man is killed live on air, poisoned when he drank a beverage while he was a host of a radio show. To make matters more dramatic, the show was trying to advertise the beverage which was poisoned, so the show is losing money and listeners. The police are stumped, so everyone involved turns to Nero Wolfe. What follows is a mystery of Blackmail, murder, forged letters and cyanide.

The plot twists and turns, with new clues and suspects turning up every few pages. I liked it more than the average Nero Wolfe book. The characters of Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin didn’t really undergo any character development, so I can’t comment about that. The pacing is even and brisk.

Highly recommended, just be warned that some of the stereotypes are old fashioned.

Stay Sunny!
