Into the Expanse we go…
Spoiler-tastic Review
They’ve upped the ante here in season 3, making a fantastic work of art which is even more glorious than the prior two seasons. This season was a combo platter of two main plotlines: wrapping up the Ganeymede storyline and going through the ‘slow zone’ storyline, all in one season. It was glorious.
I can finally say that all the actors have learned how to act. Indeed some of the performances were so good that I’m honestly impressed. This is better than Battlestar Galactica at it’s heights. Further, the show’s finally written several antagonists who I can feel empathetic for in the form of Ashford and Melba. Both have well thought out reasons for their antagonist activities and are not ‘do evil for greed/the greater good’ which prior seasons were plagued with. However my favorite character this season was the protagonist Anna, a genuinely nice person who goes outside of her comfort zone repeatedly to help people because as a minister she thinks it’s the right thing to do.
The settings and cinematography in this season were also breathtaking. There were several instances of my jaw dropping as characters walked down a charnal house in space… except since space has no gravity all the bodies were floating in lifelike positions. It was spectacularly creepy, and required nearly no SFX to do it.
I am so happy that this show was picked up for a forth season. I’ll be watching it next year on Amazon, where it will be airing. It’d be a shame for a show this good to be cut short in the prime of it’s life.
Highly recommended.
