Spoiler-ific review

The old crew is still flying!

As some of my readers may know I’m not a real big graphic novel reader, but I saw this at the library and decided to check it out. I enjoyed the ‘Firefly’ TV show (RIP) and the movie ‘Serenity,’ so I figured I would like this. By and large I did.

The art was good, but the characters sometimes looked a little ‘off.’ The artists did their best to make the characters look like the actors, but sometimes the art didn’t quite click. I suppose that’s just a risk when you’re re-imagining an actual person. The setting around the characters seemed true to the universe.

The plot was a mixture of a heist and a Alliance vs. Browncoats. I didn’t think the authors did a very good job of explaining things if this is your intro to the universe. It was fine for a fan, but dense if you aren’t.

The characterization of the heroes seemed true to their on-screen versions. Wash seemed like Wash, Shepherd Book like Shepherd Book…

Net total, I liked it but didn’t love it. If you like the on-screen version, this is a nice option to read if you want more but it’s by no means mandatory.
