Books and Fitness: First week of August

Analysis at bottom

Over the last few months I’ve been reducing my processed sugar intake in an effort to be healthier. It’s been hard because I have a sweet tooth, however I’ve found that I’m feeling better and my skin has cleared up a fair bit.

Also I’ve noticed that I’m not really sore any more. Sure, I’m a little sore, but the key word is ‘little.’

  • Reading
  • Jump rope
  • Dog walked
  • Gym-
    • Chest
      • New max 214
    • OHP
      • new max 155
  • Biked 2 miles (I also had to swap tires when the old one wore out. That was fun.(No, seriously, it was fun. I’m definitely going to do more of my bike maintainence from now on.)

  • Read nothing
  • Walked dog
  • Biked 7 miles
  • Gym. Only did Squats at gym, and not sumos as well.
    • I got there late on account of my bike ride, and then when I got there a guy was using the squat rack. I had to use the smith machine to squat instead. This is bad, because the smith machine doesn’t let you balance as well as the standard squat rack. C’est la vie.
    • New max 242

  • The Raven Tower- finished. I liked it a lot, but I can’t give it a Highly Recommended. It’s just too niche.
  • I went a bit nuts and wrote a large review for the Raven Tower. 1500 words. I don’t really feel like writing/editing after that. MB.
  • Beneath the Twisted Trees
  • Soulless
  • 15 mile bike ride
  • Walked dog
  • Gym- OHP and incline bench
    • On my 1+ set I felt some pain in my lower back, so I quit OHP after that pain. Bit of a meh day honestly.
      • I think the pain was in part caused by my legs not being wide enough to balance the load, the weight was slightly too heavy, and mostly I HAD BAD FORM! I let the bar go behind my head, causing pain down my spine when it became unbalanced.

  • Jump Rope
  • gym
    • Front Squats
    • Deadlifts
      • New max 307
  • Dog walked

  • Read some ‘Soulless’ and ‘Twisty Trees’
  • Gym
    • Bench
    • Close grip bench
  • 2 mile dog walk
  • No bike
  • No jump rope

  • Read some ‘Soulless’
  • Finished ‘Beneath the Twisted Trees.’ I liked it, but didn’t love it too much. It’s a middle book in the series. My love of the series will depend on how it ends
  • Dog walked
  • Went to Gym, but was closed. Will be closed for most of next week. I’m taking this opportunity to deload
  • No bike
  • No jump rope

Here are my theoretical 1RMs from last week:

  • Bench: 209lbs (95kg)
  • Squats: 231lbs (105kg)
  • Deads: 313lbs (142kg)
  • Overheads: 154lbs (70kg)

Here are my new theoretical 1RM:

  • Bench: 214lbs (97kg)
  • Squats: 242lbs (110kg)
  • Deads: 307lbs (139kg)
  • Overheads: 155lbs (70kg)

I had pain doing overheads, so I reduced the training weight. I’m a little disappointed about that, but not too much. I’m more disappointed by my deads going down slightly, but that’s because I didn’t show as much grit this week as last. I’ll have to try harder next week.

Here are my theoretical all-time max 1RM from last year:

  • Bench Press: 260 lbs (118kg)
  • Squat: 316lbs (143kg)
  • Deadlift: 366lbs (165 kg)
  • Overhead Press: 171lbs (78kg)

I have a while to go before I get back my lost gains.
