Books and Fitness: Third week of October

I was editing like mad AGAIN this week, so I kinda sacrificed my reading/fitness this week. Additionally, I forgot to post this on Sunday. Oops!

I’m thinking about retiring my Monthly accountability posts because no one reads them, and switching fully to the weekly formats like this. We’ll see how it goes.

Reading:

  • Working on Escaping Exodus. It has it’s faults (namely I’m bored at points and I’m not feeling the tension), but I love it’s setting. It’s so weird.
  • Additionally I’m going to start listening to audiobooks again. With all the news lately I’ve been prioritizing podcasts over audiobooks, but I want to get back into audiobooks again. So I’m going to hash out 1-2 hours of audiobooks a day, just as I read a paper book for an hour a day.

Writing:

  • Editing is as Editing does. Finished draft 3, and onto draft 4. I’m going to buckle down and finish 4. Draft 3 was a -10% draft, designed to make the book’s prose broadly tighter. Draft 4 is the same, but more detail-focused. I’m hoping to reduce it’s size by another 5% or more.
  • Additionally I also finished writing my query letter for the story. Looks good!

Fitness

  • I added some jump rope back into my exercise diet this week. I need to get back into biking to the gym, but unfortunately it was a bit rainy this week so I drove instead (don’t like biking on muddy trails in the rain. I’m a sissy).
  • I’m still struggling with my fitness training app. I think I figured it out. In two weeks (aka the first week of November) I think I’ll FINALLY have the app working like I want it to. As a result no new training maxes for this week.

Here are my theoretical 1RMs from last week:

  • Bench: 231lbs
  • Squats: 249lbs
  • (Sumo) Deads: 298lbs
  • Overheads: 145lbs (This is never going up again, and I’m fine with that)

Here are this week’s 1rms:

  • Bench: 203lbs
  • Squats: 198lbs
  • (Sumo) Deads: 258lbs
  • Overheads: 145lbs (This is never going up again, and I’m fine with that)

I’ve reached 100 reps of full-assed pullups. It’s hard. I’m going to attempt to increase the set size from groups of 10 reps to groups of 20 reps next week.

Here are my theoretical all-time max 1RM from last year:

  • Bench Press: 260 lbs (118kg)
  • Squat: 316lbs (143kg)
  • Deadlift: 366lbs (165 kg)
  • Overhead Press: 171lbs (78kg)

I have a while to go before I get back my lost gains.
